POONCH, OCT 19: In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) has led to the capture of two terrorists in the Surankote area of Poonch district. The operation, carried out on 18 October 2024, was based on intelligence inputs and resulted in the arrest of Abdul Aziz and Manwar Hussain, who were involved in multiple terror activities across the region.
The security forces were able to recover a cache of weapons, ammunition, and grenades from the captured terrorists, significantly disrupting their operational capabilities. Officials have confirmed that both individuals were instrumental in orchestrating terror activities, including grenade attacks on religious sites and hospitals. In addition to these attacks, they were engaged in terror financing, spreading anti-national propaganda, and smuggling arms, all of which contributed to the strengthening of terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir.
The arrest of Aziz and Hussain is seen as a critical victory for security forces, as it weakens the logistical and operational capabilities of terror groups in the region. Last month, another associate of the same network was arrested, underscoring the sustained efforts of the Indian Army and security forces to dismantle terror infrastructure in the state.
A senior Army officer praised the joint effort, stating that the capture of these terrorists marks a significant step in ensuring the safety of civilians and maintaining peace in the region. A JKP spokesperson added that the operation demonstrated the effective coordination between the Army and police in their ongoing fight against terrorism.
