Visits Balidan Stambh at Lal Chowk, Pays Tribute to Fallen Heroes
SRINAGAR, SEPT 30: On the final day of his service, Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain paid homage to fallen heroes at the Balidan Stambh (Martyrs’ Memorial) in Pratap Park, Lal Chowk. Swain, who has served Jammu & Kashmir for 30 years, stated that his primary goal throughout his career was to ensure that the people of the region could live without fear or intimidation, a mission he believes he fulfilled.
“For a police officer, Balidan Stambh is no less than a place of worship. There are hundreds of fallen heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the cause. It is my duty to pay rich tributes to all the heroes on the last day of my service,” Swain told reporters at the memorial.
Reflecting on his decades of service, which saw him rise from the position of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to DGP, Swain acknowledged the challenges he faced. “I got the opportunity to serve the people of Jammu & Kashmir for all these years. This opportunity doesn’t come to everyone. For this, I am thankful to the Almighty, the government, and my colleagues,” he said.
Swain emphasized his dedication to contributing toward lasting peace in the region. “I tried to bring peace with dignity to J&K with all my sincerity, soul, body, and mind. I aimed to see smiles on the faces of people and to remove fear,” he said, expressing gratitude to the community for their support.
He further added, “I believe that everyone in J&K should enjoy peace and live a life free from fear and intimidation. I think I have not lost the opportunity to ensure this.”
DGP Swain will officially step down this evening, with Nalin Prabhat set to take over as the new police chief of Jammu & Kashmir.
