JAMMU, SEPT 18: The Indo-US joint military exercise Yudh Abhyas 2024 is underway in Rajasthan and progressing in full swing. The exercise, which began on September 9, is set to continue until September 21. The initial phase included command post exercises focused on peacekeeping operations, with particular emphasis on civil-military coordination and humanitarian activities. Discussions centered on how both armies could collaborate to meet UN peacekeeping mandates, highlighting the shared vision of India and the United States in contributing to global peace and stability through active participation in UN missions.
Counter-terrorism operations have been a key focus of the exercise this year, with joint training modules on urban warfare and counter-insurgency strategies. Troops practiced fire and movement drills, close-quarter battle training, and counter-drone operations, providing valuable hands-on experience in managing threats from non-state actors and insurgents. These exercises aim to improve real-time decision-making and operational preparedness in combating global terrorism.
A dynamic field training exercise has also been ongoing, with troops from both nations engaging in real-world combat scenarios to refine response strategies. Indian and US military engineers collaborated on field engineering tasks, further strengthening interoperability between the two forces.
One of the key highlights of Yudh Abhyas 2024 has been the live-fire exercises. The US M-777 Ultra-Light Howitzers, in coordination with Indian Artillery units, conducted live firing drills, demonstrating precision and coordination in high-intensity situations. Advanced weapons systems such as the PINAKA Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) were deployed, and air support missions involving the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and Apache AH-64 helicopters added to the operational synergy between the two nations.
Beyond tactical drills, the exercise has provided an opportunity for cultural exchange, fostering stronger bonds between the forces. The final days will include additional tactical drills, such as fire and movement exercises, dummy medical casualty evacuations, and air operations. The exercise will conclude with a grand live-fire demonstration, showcasing the full spectrum of joint operational readiness achieved during Yudh Abhyas 2024.
